The elections are around the corner and the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission is still preparing for the elections slated for 9th August 2022. Six elective positions will be on the ballot papers and many candidates have been cleared to run for the seats by the IEBC. Here are the New Directives by Chebukati after CUE Revoked Sakaja’s Degree
On Friday 1st July 2022, the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebukati dismissed a letter by Commission for University Education (CUE) to revoke the recognition of Johnson Sakaja’s Nairobi senator degree. Meanwhile, the president of the IEBC also stated that the matter around Sakaja’s academic qualifications was resolved by the IEBC Dispute Tribunal.

New Directives by Chebukati after CUE Revoked Sakaja’s Degree
The Commission for University Education (CUE) on Thursday 30th June 2022 had written to the IEBC indicating that it has revoked the recognition of Johnson Sakaja’s degree from Team University in Uganda. The letter highlighted that Sakaja never attended the university which is Kampala, Uganda. Johnson Sakaja the current senator for Nairobi County is running for the gubernatorial seat in the same County.
The management of Team University from Uganda had earlier stated that the Bachelor of Science in Management (External) never existed at the university, a course that Sakaja had said he studied.
In Kenya to have a bogus degree certificate is seen as an act against the Election Offences Act, Elections Act, the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act, and the Leadership Integrity Act which could lead to provocation of your ticket to run for a seat in the elections.

Conclusion
Therefore the dismissal by IEBC of a letter to revoke the degree of Sakaja is a great relief to not only Sakaja but also to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance fraternity led by presidential candidate William Ruto. So the voters in Nairobi County will surely find the name of Johnson Sakaja on the ballot papers come 9th August 2022.
